RMS Olympic: The Ship Brian Hawley Built
RMS Olympic was the world's largest passenger ship when it was launched in 1911. The ship was built by the White Star Line and was intended to be the first of a trio of Olympic-class ocean liners. RMS Olympic was designed by Thomas Andrews and William Pirrie, and it was constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland.

The ship was 882 feet long and weighed 45,000 tons. It had a capacity of 2,435 passengers and 900 crew members. RMS Olympic was powered by two triple-expansion steam engines and two Parsons turbines. The ship could reach a speed of 23 knots.
RMS Olympic was considered to be the most luxurious passenger ship in the world at the time of its launch. It had a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a library, and a restaurant. The ship also had a number of public rooms, including a smoking room, a lounge, and a ballroom.
RMS Olympic made its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City on June 14, 1911. The ship was a success, and it quickly became one of the most popular passenger ships in the world. RMS Olympic made a number of transatlantic crossings, and it also served as a troopship during World War I.
In 1935, RMS Olympic was sold to the Shaw, Savill & Albion Line. The ship was renamed RMS Britannic and it was used as a passenger ship on the route between the United Kingdom and Australia. RMS Britannic was scrapped in 1960.
Brian Hawley
Brian Hawley was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1881. He began working at the Harland and Wolff shipyard as an apprentice shipbuilder in 1897. Hawley quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the shipyard's most skilled shipbuilders. He was involved in the construction of a number of famous ships, including RMS Titanic and RMS Olympic.
Hawley was a close friend of Thomas Andrews, the chief designer of RMS Titanic and RMS Olympic. Hawley was one of the last people to see Andrews alive before the Titanic sank in 1912.
After the Titanic disaster, Hawley continued to work at the Harland and Wolff shipyard. He was involved in the construction of a number of other ships, including RMS Britannic and RMS Aquitania. Hawley retired from the shipyard in 1946.
Hawley died in Belfast in 1969. He was 88 years old.
RMS Olympic was a remarkable ship, and it was a testament to the skill of the shipbuilders at the Harland and Wolff shipyard. Brian Hawley was one of the most skilled shipbuilders of his time, and he played a major role in the construction of RMS Olympic.
